our history

The Oklahoma Basketball Academy/Team Oklahoma Basketball Club originally was founded in 1999 as Sports City U Basketball Academy. We were the first year-round skill training program in Oklahoma, working with and developing hundreds of players each year. Joe Crawford, one of the top shooting instructors in the region, co-founded and became Director of SCU out of the gates. As the years progressed and tournament play became more prevalent, there was a growing need to form teams. With the help of skilled coaches, the SCU Hoops and Force teams were formed. As the program grew at the Lighthouse Sports and Fitness Center in OKC, Coach Crawford enlisted the help of Shane Wagner, who was running a similar training program in West Virginia. Coach Wagner arrived in 2005 with new programs to implement into the program further advancing the SCU program.

In 2009 the WNBA Detroit Shock were purchased by a group in Oklahoma and moved the team to Tulsa. During this transition the Tulsa Shock bought the rights to SCU and started the Shock Academy and Oklahoma Shock team program. This program grew in Tulsa as well as in OKC. Coach Crawford and Coach Wagner continued to lead the program until 2014 when the Shock would move to Dallas and become the Dallas Wings. It was at this time Coach Crawford and Coach Wagner regained ownership and rebranded as the Oklahoma Basketball Academy and Team Oklahoma.

Under the guidance of Coach Crawford and Coach Wagner over 200 players have received college scholarships. During this time players, both boys and girls, have gone on to play and compete at every level of college basketball and many have returned to coach in the program and become HS and college coaches.
